Realistically, just do the self install, and if there's an issue they'll send someone out to swap the ONT. In that regard, it's not unlike cable modems, where every modem on a node gets the signal for every other modem. It just knows which ONT is supposed to be yours and encodes the traffic accordingly, and your ONT filters out/ignores the traffic for the other ONTs (and vice versa). Verizon doesn't know ahead of time the serial number for the ONT that the tech would install, they just pull one off their truck. That's how they know which one to activate for your account. The tech has to register the serial number / MAC of the ONT in the system to associate it with that address I believe.
